Michael J. Fox Says His Acting Career Might Just Be Over Because Of His Parkinsons

Michael J. Fox is one of the most iconic actors out there and so are many of his roles! However, the star admits in his brand new tell all book, ‘No Time Like the Future: An Optimist Considers Mortality,’ that the progression of Parkinson’s disease might just mean his acting days are behind him at this point.

Fox says in the memoir that ‘There is a time for everything, and my time of putting in a twelve-hour workday, and memorizing seven pages of dialogue, is best behind me.’

Michael also writes that, three decades after he was first diagnoses with Parkinson’s, it might finally be time for him to retire.

‘At least for now. I enter a second retirement. That could change, because everything changes. But if this is the end of my acting career, so be it.’

Sure enough, the star was diagnosed back in 1991 when he was no older than 29 years old!

At that time, he was already considered an icon in the industry since he’d been in the Back to the Future movies, Teen Wolf, The Secret of My Success, as well as the ‘Family Ties’ TV show.

Even after the diagnosis came, however, he did not stop working!

He went on to also star in many other projects, including Stuart Little, For Love or Money, and Spin City, the last of which got him no less than 3 Golden Globes!

But one movie he only watched, Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood, apparently helped the actor a lot come to terms with his situation.

In his memoir, he explains that ‘Leonardo DiCaprio, playing a cowboy actor who’s seen better days, keeps screwing up his lines. Furious at himself over his chronic inability to remember and deliver the dialogue… [he] berates himself viciously over his abject failure. I feel his pain. I’ve obviously been there. But weighed against everything else in my life, I don’t find it worthy of self-excoriation. My work as an actor does not define me.’
