Being a prince is hard work, but that doesn’t seem to stop Prince William from taking on an impressive new job. The Duke of Cambridge added daddy to his resume last summer, and this summer he’s adding air ambulance helicopter pilot to it. He has officially joined the East Anglian Air Ambulance, according to palace officials.
Prince William spent three years working as a helicopter pilot with the royal air force in Anglesey before leaving his role to pursue other ventures. The prince will begin training for his new role this fall and will begin his role as a co-pilot. By spring, it’s expected he will take over as a pilot. Don’t expect to see less of William and Kate, however. While this is the Duke’s primary job, it will take into account his royal duties and work around his official palace appearances, travel and responsibilities. He and the Duchess will still make time for their favorite charities, overseas trips and official palace business.
The news is good for the Duke and Duchess, who make no secret of the fact that they prefer life in the country over life at Kensington Palace. Based in the country, the couple will get to spend much of their time living there.
This new job will allow the couple and their one-year-old son to call Anmer Hall, their 10-bedroom home in Sandringham, their primary residence. Technically, Kensington Palace will still be considered their official royal home, but they will only spend time here on weekends and official visits, instead making Anmer Hall their unofficial primary residence.
At the moment, the couple’s new home is being renovated to accommodate a family of three. “They want to live up there as much as possible. They are going to be Norfolk-based and coming to London every so often, rather than London-based and going off for a weekend in Norfolk,” stated palace officials.
